An Interactive workshop on "Science and Spirituality" On 2nd Nov 2019 at IISc Bangalore to resolve dynamic challenges of life and enhance holistic excellence
The 21st century is the age of science and technology. Therefore, a graduate and a professional must be smart and have the edge to excel in their scientific and technological pursuits. This requires deeper thinking and contemplation based deeper perception of the reality. Apart from this, for the sustainable development of the society, the technology assisted modern man should also have strong foundations in ethics and values; contentment and peace; social harmony and morality or spirituality. In this regard, it is well known that the success stories in life are highly motivated with deeper thinking and perception of the reality along with the cultivation of sublime qualities such as patience, determination, simplicity, perseverance etc.,
Today, a graduate student or a professional is under enormous stress to perform and excel in their education, career and profession. All round competence is the desired attribute of every graduate and soft skills are the need of the hour. The cultivation of soft skills is beyond the domain of scientific and technological knowledge, as these qualities are addressed in humanities subjects such as philosophy and spirituality.
Therefore, to drive holistic excellence in all spheres of life’s activity, a balanced outlook of science, philosophy and spirituality along with practical applications of their contextual synthesis/integration is required to potentially mitigate smaller and bigger issues in life and pave the way for success stories in a rewarding life’s journey. The need for holistic training and education arises due to the following contemporary issues of the education and social systems of the nation:

The need for holistic training and education arises due to the following contemporary issues of the education and social systems of the nation:
- Limited subjective emphasis in higher education curriculum for self-contemplation and customized soft skill development.
- Challenges and hardships associated to career and placement.
- Highly demanding corporate work culture due to seamless technological leaps in the society.
- State-of-the-art in science and technology not in continuum with life’s activity.
- Curriculum not emphasizing and integrating conduct, ethics, values and moral foundations.
- Ignorance towards spiritual and theistic paradigm due to conditioning associated to non-rational approaches.
About institute
Founded in 1974, the Bhaktivedanta Institute is a center for Advanced Studies in Science, Philosophy and Vedanta. The institute reached its reputation to be the world leader in the field of science-spirituality synthesis with the tireless efforts of Dr. T. D. Singh (His Holiness Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami). These dialogues cover various common conceptual grounds and promote a better understanding amongst different scientific and faith-based communities. They also address issues that emerge due to technological developments and scientific discoveries.
The Bhaktivedanta Institute also collaborated with other organizations such as the URI (United Religions Initiative), Templeton Foundation, Metanexus Institute and many other organizations around the world to address issues of common interests. To fulfill its objectives, the Institute supports the exchange of ideas through conferences, seminars, publications, workshops and courses. Visionary
Dr. T. D. Singh, the founding director of Bhaktivedanta Institute and a pioneer in science-spirituality dialogue, envisioned that Bangalore, being the home to many educational and research institutions and therefore fostering the intellectual manpower, is a fertile ground for promoting the interface between science and spirituality. Dr. Singh envisioned that in our search for the Ultimate Reality and answers to some of the most fundamental questions of our existence, the two seemingly different approaches – scientific method and spiritual wisdom needs to join hands. He organized several international and national conferences to stimulate creative thinking in students for a balanced growth of scientific and spiritual advancement and to support outstanding students, scholars and scientists in their pursuit of deeper knowledge. The Workshop on "Science & Spirituality" is a humble attempt to carry forward this vision of Dr.T.D. Singh.
