Inception of the Course
The scientific study of Bhagavad-Gita was one of the important projects conceived by Dr. T. D. Singh . Dr. Singh in one of his letter remarked, "The Bhaktivedanta Institute is an attempt to fulfill this is basic necessity of utmost importance. There are hundreds of departments of knowledge for advanced study in thousands of institutions all over the world, but there is practically not a single department dealing with science of Atma, the "self'", and the relation between jivatama (individual self) and Paramatma (Supersoul). Ironically, atmajnana, the science of self is the most important branch of knowledge. However, this branch of knowledge completely neglected and as a result everybody is struggling hard for existence. In spite of the many scientific and technological advances, people are suffering and are confused so much in all respects, scientifically, morally and ethically. The root of all these is due to the complete lack of this very science of atma and its real duty. There is, thus, a great necessity to impart this imperishable supreme science to everyone. young and old." Former Student’s Feedback: Rishikesh Dilip Kulkarni
Former student of IISc, Bangalore M.Tech ( 2009- 2011); Presently: post doctoral researcher in the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland. I almost regularly attended the Bhagvad Gita classes and my life was not the same anymore. The discussions were so profound that they changed me as a person for all good and led me conduct my educational duties in a more fruitful and purposeful manner. The purity of the atmosphere made me realize the impurities present in me and made me try to correct them. This institute in a true sense made me want to be a good human being. K Nagarathna Indian Institute of Science The classes are so informative and attracts scientifically oriented minds as well as spiritually interested ones, for those who think about the purpose of life, the origin of our existence and where are we destined to reach. I have therefore been greatly benefitted by associating with BI, and at the same time realize the responsibility of carrying further BI's mission. Sarath Muraleedharan Indian Institute of Science The course is very helpful in my life. The knowledge in the Gita is very hopeful, reassuring and inspiring. It gives a very nice perspective to view things and not get mentally entangled in problems. I try to remember some of the verses of the Gita when I face some difficulty. I used to feel very peaceful while listening to the Gita classes. The classes used to relieve a lot of stress for me. Overall the course was excellent. The powerpoint presentations and weekly summaries were very nice. Nagraj Vishwanath Swami Former student of IISc, Bangalore M Tech, CEDT, 2011 batch. BI has been instrumental in kindling my interests in topics of science of self realization, Vedic literature, purpose of life. The Bhagavad-Gita classes have brought in lot of changes in my perspective towards life. All the trips to the holy places, we had been with BI group have been very memorable. Pavithra Project assistant, IISc My experience before and after attending the classes in Bhaktivedanta Institute is a vast. Initially, I used to have a fear inside for taking any initiative in life and work. So I would keep postponing such works. But after attending the classes at BI, I have learnt to take initiative. The way of thinking also changed a lot now. In every session of the Bhagavad gita class, I used to get the answer for my daily life problems. I still wonder how the solutions to my day-to-day problems have been already written in Bhagavad gita that was complied 5000 years ago. It's a miracle or the potency of this transcendental literature. I am very thankful to Dr. T. D. Singh for establishing this institute, for the people to get the knowledge of deeper perspective and basic foundation of life. In many ways it is helping us to improve our daily life as well as enlightening us about the spiritual path. Really, it is a boon for the students and the professional to get involved and learn about self realization with a scientific perspective as well. |
